Poachers to Eco-Warriors

http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/24/africa/edwin-sabuhoro-consevation-hero-gorillas-poaching/index.html
Poaching of endangered animals has been a very important issue in many countries with their dwindling rare species of animals. Edwin Sabuhoro was determined to put an end to this poaching in Rwanda. He worked for a conservation park that was protecting the mountain gorilla, which was endangered. To get the poachers he pretended to have a baby gorilla for them and he was able to get all the poachers arrested. He learned that the only reason they had poached was for their survival and they were desperate to get food. He took the initiative to create a new group that would teach ex-poachers to farm and started an eco-tourism business that was help run by ex-poachers. Edwin was able to end this horrible practice, change the lives of so many people, and raise awareness about endangered species. Recently Edwin has met with President Obama to form a plan to help his ideas spread across other parts of Africa that are experiencing some of the same problems.

It is fantastic to see someone who is so devoted to their cause spend their time and money to help a noble cause and change the lives of so many people. It is a tremendous feat just to stop the poachers but Edwin went above standards and was able to impact their lives and get them on the right track. If Edwin, with the help of other Africans, can get his ideas to spread then we will be able to start better lives for many poachers and protect many endangered species from extinction. Edwin's revolutionary ideas could be groundbreaking for eco-tourism and the conservation of endangered species.

Alien Life by 2025

For the longest time we (people of Earth) have been searching the vast, never ending galaxy for other life forms that may be just like us or not the same at all. Recently NASA has released predictions about these "aliens" that we will soon not just discover, but have proof that they exist. NASa says that they have been making a lot of process in exploring the universe and will most likely "have definite evidence within 20 to 30 years" (Leopold). The discovery of water on one of Jupiter's moons and on a dwarf planet NASA has discovered is a step closer to discovering life elsewhere in the universe. Although the life that may be first discovered will be small microorganisms that are too small for us to see. The farther and more in-depth we begin to explore beyond our solar system the greater the chances we have to discover life.

I have also been really fascinated by space and the thought that we might not be the only life to exist in our universe. For the longest time we have been restricted by our lack of technology and understanding to go exploring father then a planet or 2 away but as we improve our technology we are able to open up our understanding and explore even further. I am certain that there will be life beyond what we know now, it is just the question of how developed that life is. Such as in the article it says there will be microorganisms but will there be creatures of our capability or even greater? I hope I am still alive to see the day when we discover life on another planet, although even thought that sounds exciting it also sounds terrifying at the same time. This can all be summed up in one of my favorite quotes by Arthur C. Clarke: "Either we are alone in this universe or we are not; both are equally terrifying."

The Conflict of Robots in the Workplace

Technology such as Robots and other new ideas to improve production and cut back on spending have started to create new industries. Their goal is to develop a robot that is just as efficient as a human being. Sawyer is a new kind of Robot that has created a lot of controversy since its announcement. Many people argue that it will create "global unemployment" but it could also save us from doing dull and sedentary jobs. Sawyer is more complex then other robots due to his flexible one arm that opens up more tasks that it can complete then could be done by past robots. Although they find it extremely difficult to produce a robot with the same dexterity or ability to use their hands as well as humans. There are good and bad sides to having factories run by robots, but Sawyer is a step into the future of Robotics and technology.

I believe that technology like this is a great idea for paving our way to create a better and more efficient future. Using robots for things like manufacturing and other assembly line jobs will work very well, but there is a line that I think should be drawn for robots. People should not lose jobs because of these robots in important places, there should be only a few positions that robots should work in as I have mentioned earlier. Robots do have advantages like never missing days or having issues that need to be solved, well because they are robots. The ideas that are in progress are very important to our development and I am excited to see what happens to robots in my lifetime.
